Bio
I am a musician, educator, producer, & father. My father is a drummer from the
deep south, my mother a Swedish songbird. I was steeped in music as a child and at the age of 15 began singing in an A cappella group called The Wayfarers that took me from Colorado to New York and Atlanta by the time I graduated high school. Along the way I've been priveledged to study with amazing spirits from legendary performer Joe Russell of The Persuasions, to Todd Buffa from Rare Silk, woodwind master Art Bouton, and my vocal coach and mentor, the extrodinary Dr. Scott Martin.
Colorado
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado in the 1970's. I began playing guitar and piano at age 8 and in fourth grade started to play the saxophone. In the mid 1980's at age 15, I joined an A cappella group called the Wayfarers that gave me my first professional performing experience. The group traveled to New York, Atlanta and performed at many festivals including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and The American Music Festival. By the time I graduated High School I was hooked. In 1990 I spent a year in Europe, busking with a guitar and learning to write songs and play for food and beer. In the early 1990’s I started forming bands and playing with as many groups as I could.
In 1996, I began organizational sessions with DJ Timbuk and fellow musicians, which soon became The United Dope Front, a band that released four CD’s and spearheaded the “Acid Jazz” and groove scene in Colorado for seven years.
Througout the 1990's I was lucky enough to meet and play with many amazing musicians both well known known and obscure. Some of the performers I've been lucky enough to share a stage with are Bela Fleck, Emmy Lou Harris, Javon Jackson, Michael Franti, and Medeski, Martin, & Wood. I have opened for such acts as Maceo Parker, The Meters, Willie Nelson, Hank Crawford, and War.
Cuezone Records
In 2000, I started CueZone Records with fellow musician Jarad Astin. We released over fifteen albums struggling to learn about the business side of music and fighting to keep independent music alive in the post Napster years of the 21st century. While our albums struggled to get a lot of sales, I developed lasting relationships with an amazing group of musicians, engineers and producers who I continue to work with today.
New York
In 2008, I launched The Cuezone Brotherhood or Cuebro, with compatriots Jarad Astin and Kyle Jones. Cuebro is emerging as a go to company for original tracks and hip, solid, production music. We are currently producing music for various films and commercial use while releasing cutting edge original music all in a scalable, online format. This year we are offering four new releases and over thirty fresh production tracks. I am very excited about the emerging new music paradigm and what it means for independent young artists.
